Scientific Journal

Given a scientific journal, we were to search through it and using the topics, we created lesson ideas and found patterns throughout the journal.

Topics:

• Looking at landscapes such as geographic features (water/soil etc.)
• Water cycle

Concepts:

• The importance of play - hands on experience, students need to show environmental awareness
• Data collection sheets

Lessons:

• Send child home with an idea of things to find in their own yards and have them come in with the object and discuss them
• Students can compare the landscapes of different areas
• They can keep a log of the things they found and inferences they have made with a Science Journal
• You can take the kids for a walk around the facility and have them pick up items and infer about them
• Use water for the students to feel around in

Patterns:

• The lessons are hands on and use data and charts to show observations and finding
• The lessons all start by stating "We are on an adventure"
• They create a situation for the students (ex. We are going to be studying rain today) and then pose questions for the class to ponder about
