Today, class began by passing around a paper bag. Each person was given 3 seconds to try and guess what was in the bag. As it was being passed around, there were noises such as squeaking and shaking. Once everyone had the chance to feel the bag, guesses of what it included were being shared. Personally, I guessed a dog toy and a rattle. Many other people guessed those as well, along with a maraca.
This activity is enough to get students engaged. They will be able to be hands on with the bag, trying to think about what could possibly be inside. This will give them their hypothesis, along with guesses to solve it. They will be engaged the whole lesson, waiting to finally see whats in the bag!
Steps of Inquiry:
1. Formulate a question/problem
2. Make predictions (expected results)
3. Design steps to investigate the problem to generate data that will allow you to evaluate the hypothesis
4. Communicate the results
